The High School Counselor’s Caseload

The National Association for College Admission Counseling and the American School Counselor Association report that U.S. public school counselors serve an average 482 students on their caseload, not the recommended number of 250 students.

Michigan public schools have the second highest student-to-counselor ratio in the nation. That ratio? 729:1

If your high school student’s counselor doesn’t meet with your student frequently to discuss future plans, there is a time factor at play. Nevertheless, that counselor writes one of your student’s recommendations.

Your student needs to take some initiative in this counselor relationship. You and your student may also benefit from some additional assistance through the college admission process. Working with a professional college consultant can be “priceless.”
